The Beginnings of Marvelous Mannered K9s

A Personal Journey and Love for Dogs

Our Marvelous Mannered Story wasn’t born from a desire to create a business but from a deep love for dogs and a commitment to providing them with the best life possible. After losing a beloved dog, Maggie, who shed excessively despite our best efforts to keep our home clean, we decided our next dogs would be breeds that shed substantially less. This led us to choose a Goldendoodle for a mid-sized breed and a chocolate Miniature Schnauzer with double blue eyes.

Positive Breeder Experiences

I absolutely loved the breeders I dealt with when purchasing both Brandy, our Goldendoodle, and Coco, our Miniature Schnauzer. These experiences solidified my passion for dogs and laid the groundwork for the beginning of our Marvelous Mannered Story.

The Importance of Training

I’ve always had dogs and spent considerable time training them. However, with Brandy, our first dog after Maggie, I sought professional training for the first time. The options were costly and not entirely satisfactory, prompting me to research and learn how to train Brandy myself. This experience sparked a deep interest in dog training and led to the development of Marvelous Mannered K9s of Texas’ comprehensive training program.

Passion for Diabetic Alert Dogs

As a type 1 diabetic for over 30 years, I wear an insulin pump and found the idea of training Brandy as a Diabetic Alert Dog (D.A.D.) immensely appealing. I delved into specialized training materials and techniques, ultimately training Brandy myself. This journey was incredibly rewarding and strengthened our bond, inspiring the creation of this Marvelous Mannered Story.

Commitment to Responsible Breeding

My biggest concern with breeding was the number of dogs in shelters. However, my research showed that proper training from an early age can significantly enhance a dog’s ability to integrate successfully into a home. This realization was the driving force behind this Marvelous Mannered Story, combining excellent breeding practices with comprehensive training to ensure our puppies are well-prepared for their new homes.

This Marvelous Mannered Story was born from the desire to share the joy and companionship I’ve found in my dogs with others. Our partnership with Baxter & Bella’s Online Puppy School ensures that new puppy parents have the resources they need to continue training and nurturing their puppies, fostering a lifetime of love and companionship.

Marvelous Mannered K9s of Texas is more than a breeding program; it’s a heartfelt journey born from Laura Lee’s love for Miniature Schnauzers and Goldendoodles. Growing up on a farm in Washington State, Laura learned the importance of the bond between humans and animals. Her experiences raising and showing sheep in the local 4-H Club ignited a lifelong passion for nurturing animals, which laid the foundation for Marvelous Mannered K9s of Texas.

Early Training and Socialization

The first 16 weeks of a puppy’s life are crucial for their development. During this period, behaviors and habits are formed that are fundamental to their growth. Proper puppy socialization and training during these early weeks can significantly reduce the likelihood of behavioral issues later.

A Personal Commitment to Training

When Laura bought her Goldendoodle, Brandy, she decided to train her as a Diabetic Alert Dog (D.A.D.). Hiring a professional trainer proved to be very expensive, costing thousands of dollars. Determined to achieve her goal, Laura conducted extensive research and learned how to train Brandy herself. This experience underscored the importance of early training and inspired Laura to start training puppies from birth, making it easier for new puppy parents to continue the training tradition.

Before breeding our first puppy, Marvelous Mannered K9s of Texas partnered with world-renowned Amy Jensen at Baxter & Bella’s Online Puppy School. This partnership underscores our lifelong commitment to the puppies’ well-being, providing new puppy parents with continuous support and guidance.

Every new puppy home receives a complimentary membership to Baxter & Bella’s training resources. This membership offers unlimited access to professional dog trainers, helping puppy parents teach everything from basic commands to advanced service dog-level training.
